We're finally back from our 2.5 week trip to Europe and now it's time to share our adventures. Over the next few days we'll update this page with another segment of our trip. Feel free to peruse!
......................................................
We flew from LAX to Zurich and then a short flight into Prague. Here's a photo of our experience of Zurich airport: silent. Even in places where the airport was packed, it was silent. But then, that's the Swiss for you... silent. And that's what makes them such deadly assassins and remarkable watch makers....
We arrived in Prague on the night of October 22nd and shared a shuttle with a Canadian breakdancer who had just moved from the arctic circle where she taught inuit teenagers how to pop and lock. Sarah showed her some new moves but I didn't get any photos of that...
We helped our friend of the North find a hostel and then we checked into a little apartment on the far side of the Charles Bridge, just below Prague Castle.
Here's a photo from outside our window - perfect cold, cloudy weather.
On our first full day in Prague, which turned out to be the coldest day of our entire trip, we started the morning at a cafĂ© with dort a kava. Little did we know, this was actually something that people typically ordered in the afternoon. It was, literally, a cup of espresso with a piece of chocolate cake. Mmmm…breakfast=dessert. Next time, read the fine print on the specials. The fine print in Czech....
Next, we explored Josefov, the old Jewish section of the city. From an old cemetery with topsy-turvy tombstones to incredible synagogues, we were able to explore the history of a group of people that was tragically affected by World War II.
For lunch, we found a recommended restaurant with AMAZING cabbage soup in a bread bowl. Truly, we wish we had the recipe. We had also heard the restaurant was famous for it's pork leg, so we ordered it. We didn't realize it is, literally, a pig's leg…see attached. (a couple of local ladies couldn't stop laughing when they saw our reaction to the pig leg being set before us).
We meandered around Old Town a little more during the afternoon, then gave in to the jet lag and took a nap.
For dinner, we went to a recommended restaurant called El Centro. Not sure why, but the empanadas just didn’t have that charming “Czech feel”.
Even though it was a cold evening in October, the city stayed alive until quite late. We were able to see a bit of the night life and even visit the touristy statue on the Charles Bridge. Here's a few bonus photos.
