Thursday, morning in Prague and drive to Krumlov...
We arose bright and early to head up to Prague Castle for some short film footage of me, in my period costume, at the Golden Lane. The Castle grounds open up at 5:00am and don't start charging until 9:00, which was perfect for our schedule (and budget). However, we had not planned on how weird it would be to walk past the castle guards when there were no other tourists in the place. It's a lot like Buckingham Palace where the guards stand out front and don't move or say anything to you. So we walked by, between two guards, me in my costume, and they didn't stop us... however, when we got back to the Golden Lane and had been shooting for a few minutes, a guard showed up and just walked back and forth past us; watching us but not saying anything. This is a photo of Sarah posing like we were normal tourists... not sure what we were trying to prove. But we didn't get arrested, so it worked.
After the Castle, we headed back to the airport where we picked up our rental car to drive down to the southern edge of the Czech Republic; a town called Cesky Krumlov (chess-key kroom-laow). This is me, in my Eastern European garb (scarf) saying "Ciao." (If you've seen Eddie Izzard, you understand)
On our way to Krumlov we saw a bunch of signs for castles and decided to stop at one. We were the only people in the parking lot and they didn't have any English tours so we just walked around the outside... and played in the leaves.
After about a 3 hour trip, we arrived in Krumlov and drove around the town for about 45 minutes trying to figure out how to get into it... medieval towns were not built for convenient tourist entrance. We finally arrived at Penzionek Olsakovsky; our B&B. We met Jana, our awesome hostess, who gave us tons of great tips on restaurants and getting around Krumlov, and then showed us our cozy room.
We really clicked with Jana, who lives in Prague with her husband and two year old daughter, and comes down to Krumlov when they have guests. We thought it would be fun to leave a note and ask her if she'd like to join us for dinner. When we returned from our afternoon exploring, we found a note on our door accepting our invitation. We went out that night and had a great time dining and hearing about life growing up in Eastern Europe. Jana even told us about being part of the Velvet Revolution when the Czechoslovakia declared it's independence from the communist party. We had drinks at a local pub and then went for a late night walk around the Krumlov Castle Wall...
I took these while the three of us were out walking around and talking about life...
